William E. Mayer

William E. Mayer is the Founding Partner of Park Avenue Equity Partners, a private equity firm specializing in middle-market investments.

An experienced academic leader, Mr. Mayer spent five years as a professor and Dean of the College of Business and Management at the University of Maryland. During his tenure, he led a comprehensive restructuring effort that significantly enhanced the school’s academic programs, elevating it to a top-25 national ranking. He also previously served as a professor and Dean of the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester.

Before his career in academia, Mr. Mayer spent 23 years at The First Boston Corporation, a prominent investment bank, where he held several executive leadership roles, including President and Chief Executive Officer. 

Throughout his career, Mr. Mayer has served on the boards of numerous public and private corporate entities. He was the Chairman of the Aspen Institute from 2000 to 2008, where he remains a member of the Board of Trustees and its Executive Committee. Additionally, he is a past Chairman of the Board for the University of Maryland, College Park. His current board memberships include Rosemore Capital Strategies LLC, Lirio, Inc., Renovo Concepts, Friends of Florence, the American Academy in Berlin, and Aspen Institute Italia. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the advisory council for the Harlem Academy.

Mr. Mayer served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and holds both a BS and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
